What Is a Circuit?

🔍 Why This Matters

Now that we know what electricity is, let’s ask the next big question:
How do we control it?
How do we send it to just the right place—and stop it when we don’t need it?

That’s where circuits come in.

 

🔁 What’s a Circuit?

A circuit is a pathway for electricity to move through. Like a road, it has a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Electricity flows in a loop. If the loop is closed, the electricity moves. If the loop is broken, the electricity stops.

So:

  • Closed circuit = electricity flows

  • Open circuit = no flow

That’s why light switches work. They open or close the circuit.

 

🪫 Basic Circuit Example

Let’s say you have:

  • A battery

  • A wire

  • A light bulb

If you connect the wire from one end of the battery to the bulb, and another wire back to the battery, the bulb lights up. That’s a complete circuit.

Remove one wire? The bulb turns off. That’s an open circuit.

 

🔍 Why Is This So Important?

Because every single thing a computer does—showing letters, running games, making music—is built from millions of circuits being turned on and off in just the right way.
