An open book becomes an imaginary garden with a stream, bridge, paper boat and flying kite, inviting the reader into a story.
A colourful writing checklist and pencil: a clear action, the right order and no guesswork. An invitation to communicate clearly.

A CLOSER LOOK

Read like a detective

Read with understanding, enjoy language and help a real reader or listener follow your ideas.

See it. Try it. Make it yours.

  1. Read like a detective

  2. Words with possibilities

  3. Sentences that say what you mean

CISCE Class IV, usually ages 9–10 · What to know before you start

Bring with you: Read short everyday English sentences and recognise common words; ask a partner to help with unfamiliar words. Have a notebook and pencil. A partner can read the listening passages aloud; independent reading alternatives are included.

Read with understanding, enjoy language and help a real reader or listener follow your ideas.

Thirty-two Missions build from short texts to connected writing. Use a notebook for stories, poems and letters. A partner supports listening and speaking; online marks describe the bounded tasks, not the quality of an unheard speech or unseen essay.

By the end, you can…

  • Find details, order events, explain a main idea and support an inference with evidence.
  • Use reference tools and context, and explain how sound and comparison work in poems.
  • Build and edit clear sentences using agreement, tense, possession and punctuation.
  • Plan and practise attentive listening, relevant discussion, coherent retelling and a short report.
  • Plan, draft and revise connected paragraphs, an original story and a short poem.
  • Write a friendly letter, interpret everyday texts and assemble a small reading-and-writing portfolio.

For another Course

  • A particular school textbook, prescribed copyrighted anthology or CISCE endorsement.
  • Automatic grading of unrestricted essays, handwriting, pronunciation or live speech.
  • Every literary genre or advanced secondary-school grammar.
